Homeowner’s Associations & Rooftop Solar

DETAILS

Year: 2023

Topics: Solar on HOA properties, Solar legislation

Organizer: PACE and CTEN

The ability of residents of CT’s homeowners’ associations (HOAs) and Planned Unit Developments (PUDs) to install solar on their own roofs is evolving. The passage of the state Clean Air Act in 2022 has streamlined the process by which PUD homeowners, for example, can go solar, although the executive boards of such communities can impose some reasonable restrictions.

This event will address questions such as:

• Which HOAs are covered by the 2022 legislation and which are not?

• How can HOA boards implement this legislation?

• What are my rights as a resident of such a community?

• What’s left to do in the upcoming legislative session?

Presenters:

• Andrea Dunn, a lawyer specializing in condo law, and vice-chair of the CT Community Associations Institute’s legislative advocacy committee.

• Jeff Currey, State Representative for East Hartford & Manchester. Representative Currey is working with fellow legislators to advance access to solar.

• Tom Meek, President and former Treasurer of the Powder Forest Homes Association in Simsbury, CT.
