House Tours Fascinating Straw Bale Home
The 2015 PACE house tour, conducted in conjunction with the Sharon Audubon Society and the CT Chapter of Sierra Club, showcased a house like no other. This remarkable home was built using straw bales sandwiched between magnesium oxide panels. The very knowledgeable and forward-looking owners of this home selected straw bale construction for its low carbon footprint and good insulating properties. In addition, the home featured an open floor plan with a beautiful central soapstone fireplace, recycled appliances, both solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal panels and a heat recovery ventilator (HRV). Nestled in the hills of Sharon, it is a living example of living in balance with nature.
