What are your sustainability goals for Simsbury? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

To incorporate new technology and insight in managing our town assets and being responsive in an earth friendly manner. I also feel alternative trash streams should be pursued for items such as food waste.

Currently, our town and school buildings heat with fossil fuels (e.g., natural gas and oil). What plans do you have to transition them from fossil fuels to renewable sources? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

As each building comes up for repairs and maintenance I would hope to incorporate input from the Simsbury Sustainability Committee so as to transition to renewable energy where it is feasible and not excessively cost prohibitive.

What plans do you have to transition our town and school fleet of cars, trucks, and school buses to electric vehicles? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

I would follow the State of Connecticut’s lead on this. At present legislation is being considered phasing out fossil fuel vehicles. I think technology is developing at such an incredible pace, that there are many opportunities on the horizon.

What regulations would you recommend for new housing and commercial developments to reduce carbon emissions? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

I know my personal opinion would be that there is a cost savings to incorporate solar and/or geothermal cooling at a cost savings during new construction. This being said, I would need to gather my constituents’ views before implementing regulations.

What would you do to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy in private homes and businesses in Simsbury?

Act as a conduit between suppliers and residents as well as support any and all findings/opportunities from the Simsbury Sustainability Committee
