In 2001, PACE conducted a very special tour, showcasing the Canton home and property of Judi and Lou Friedman. Judi had started the Farmington Valley chapter of PACE, which by 2001 was the only active chapter remaining in the state. She and her husband Lou went on to lead PACE for forty-four years. Their home was, as would be expected, a living display of the potential for energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy. The highlight of the tour was hearing Judi explain how the sun powered her home and garden. PACE board member Sharon Vocke recalls Judi responding to a participant’s question about the payback on her solar panels with a clear statement that the payback is “leaving a better world for her children and grandchildren!”
