Todd Burrick

What are your sustainability goals for Simsbury? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

As you can see in my answers below, sustainability is vital as an investment in the future of our town. It is one of the points to be considered in many of the decisions we make as a town — working together the Board of Education, Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance. My goals are to consider available options, review them in the context of the current needs and the potential future savings in dollars and environmental impact. We are the current stewards of the town for our future generations and should protect as much as we can.

Currently, our town and school buildings heat with fossil fuels (e.g., natural gas and oil). What plans do you have to transition them from fossil fuels to renewable sources? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

As a member of the Board of Finance I will work with the Board of Selectmen and Board of Education to find the best ways to balance costs and fuel transition. This will need to be a collaboration and I am committed to consider as many renewable fuel source options as possible.

What plans do you have to transition our town and school fleet of cars, trucks, and school buses to electric vehicles? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

Similar to the answer above, as a member of the Board of Finance I will work with the Board of Selectmen and Board of Education to find the best ways to balance costs and transportation options. This will need to be a collaboration and I am committed to consider as many options as possible.

As a member of the Board of Finance, will you consider investments in energy efficiency and clean energy that entail higher up-front cost but long-term savings? (please limit your answer to 250 words)

Long term sustainability is important. Everything we spend money on should be consider in the context of its investment to the town’s future – this includes energy efficiency. There are always multiple items to consider in any decision, and I will always look for the appropriate balance of programming and services with long term investments.
